Improve Your Garage Door Maintenance
Garage doors are some of the most commonly-neglected items in homes. This is often because they’re made to last, and people assume that the noises and shaking that develop over time are normal. So, many owners are faced with problems that require professional help and they feel sudden. With better maintenance, not only will any issues—large or small—feel less sudden, but they’ll come up less often, and some will be avoided altogether.
To improve your garage door maintenance, all it takes is effort. Those efforts don’t have to be inconveniences, however. With a little scheduling, you can spread the details of maintenance out so that you do it when you have time, and it doesn’t take a lot of time and energy.
Get to Know
Many people don’t know their garage doors well; they don’t know the basics of how they work. If you have your door’s manual, look it over. Additionally, take a closer look at your door and its parts. Do so when the door is not running, and do it safely. The more you know, the better you’ll be at maintaining your doors.
Stop and Listen
Most problems go unmanaged because they’re ignored. Getting to know the sounds and movements of your garage door is the first step to better care. Find the time to open and close the door, and to listen and watch. Some noise is normal, but it shouldn’t bother your ears. Your doors shouldn’t shake, or struggle. If you notice these things, take note of where they originate. You can do this once per month, or anytime you use the garage door and have an extra moment.
Keep It Clean
It may seem overly simple, but it’s important—keeping things clean. Leaves, dirt, and other debris and buildup harm the workings of your door, from rollers, to tracks, and more. Take the time to look at those moving parts and make sure they’re reasonably clean.
Nuts and Bolts
Things come loose over time. The only way to prevent that is to know what may come loose and make sure it stays appropriately tight. Check these at intervals by observing them and testing them with a gentle tightening.
Of course, part of better garage door maintenance is having a professional whom you trust to come and perform maintenance once, or twice per year, too. Call Abstract Overhead Door and Fence for that.
