Choosing Your Fence

Comments Off on Choosing Your Fence

fence contractors Philadelphia, PAYou probably have an idea of the common fencing types; you have seen them everywhere. There are wooden fences, metal and chain link fences, and more. You also may know what you don’t want, but are still trying to figure out what’s best for your yard. There are questions to be answered, such as:

  • Will it last?
  • Does it require a lot of care?
  • Is it affordable?

Wood

Wooden fences are often classic, beautiful choices. They can give the property an inviting appeal and are customizable with a wide variety of wood types, stains, and more. You can have the natural look, or paint the fence to suit your taste. These fences are attractive, but they are also at risk of rotting, insect activity, and weather damage. To address these potential issues before they start, the best option is to choose a wood less prone to the problem and to set a regular schedule of inspection and care. A wooden fence’s cost will depend upon the type of wood and any staining, painting, etc. Care over time may carry costs, as well.

Metal and Chain Link

If you’re thinking that metal fences mean chain link fences, you’re incorrect. In fact, meta fences can be very decorative and attractive. Wrought iron, for example, is often elaborate and attractive, while also being strong and difficult for intruders to tackle. While their thin appearance doesn’t provide much privacy, they’re great for both appearance and security. Aluminum can be a good option, too; it’s also a bit less expensive than iron.

Chain link fences are affordable and useful for those who want to provide a simple barrier. They often have an industrial appearance. They can be painted for a subtler appearance, too. Chain link fences are prone to rust, so preventative measures will be needed.

Vinyl

Vinyl fences are tough. They resist insects, the weather, decay, and more. All you need to clean them is water. They come in a variety of styles and colors, too. If you choose a painted fence, it may fade, which can be a drawback. Also, they are a little more expensive than wood. However, some people really appreciate their resistance to common time-related problems.
